YANKEV SIGAL

            He was a publicist and agronomist who taught at the Jewish agricultural institute in Novi Poltava, Nikolayev district, Ukraine.  His articles and correspondence pieces often appeared in the press.  He was a member of the editorial board of the Kharkov journal Bahershn di tekhnik fun der sotsyalistisher landvirshaftlekher produktsye (Mastering the technique of socialist agricultural production) (1932-1934), and he authored books dedicated to issues of agronomy.  His books include: Vi kemft men mit der trikenish (How to fight drought) (Moscow: Central People’s Publishers, USSR, 1925), 16 pp.; Tsum dritn bolshevistishn friling (The third Bolshevik spring) (Kharkov-Kiev, 1932); Di kolvirt-brigade, loyt der derfarung funem 2tn bolshevistishn farzey (The collective farm brigade, according to the experience of the second Bolshevik sowing) (Moscow, 1932), 39 pp.; Der kolvirt vinter-tsayt (Winter on the collective farm) (Moscow: Central Publishers, 1932); Der zey-farker in kamf far a hoykher geretenish (Crop rotation in the struggle for a high yield) (Kharkov-Kiev, 1932), edited by Professor Milman (director of the agro-technical department) and Y. Sigal, including work by D. Turetski, M. Herman, and Z. Borisanik (Communist Youth Brigade of the Novi Poltava Jewish Agricultural Institute).
