ARN MARGOLIN

ARN MARGOLIN (August 2, 1892-December 12, 1959)

            He was born in Ihumen (Igumen, Chervyen’), Minsk district, Byelorussia, to a father who was a forestry employee.  He lived for a time in Warsaw, where in 1918 he published his first story in the Labor Zionist journal Der yunger kemfer (The young fighter).  In 1923 he made his way to Argentina.  In Di prese (The press) in Buenos Aires, he published some travel impressions entitled “Fun varshe keyn buenos ayres” (From Warsaw to Buenos Aires); and later he wrote stories, sketches, and feature pieces for such local publications as: Dorem-amerike (South America), Nay-velt (New world), In gang (In progress), Nay-erd (New earth), Der poyer (The farmer), and Af der vakh (On guard), among others.  He later joined the leftists and was a cofounder of the publishing house “Argentine” (Argentina), which in 1940 began to publish the weekly newspaper Folks-shtime (Voice of the people).  He was also represented with the story “Koyln” (Coal) in Antologye fun der yidisher literatur in argentine (Anthology of Jewish literature in Argentina), edited by Volf Bresler (Buenos Aires, 1944).  He authored the volume Tsvishn reder, dertseylungen un lider (Between the wheels, stories and poems) (Buenos Aires: Nay-velt, 1939), 214 pp.  He died in Buenos Aires.
