FROYM LESNER-KRAFT

FROYM LESNER-KRAFT (November 25, 1885-1916)
            He was born in Jassy (Iași), Romania.  He received a traditional Jewish education and acquainted himself with Romanian, German, and Hebrew literature on his own.  In 1907 he cofounded the “Mendele Moykher-Sforim Circle” in Jassy, which brought together young people to acquaint them with Yiddish literature and humanist-socialist ideas.  He wrote correspondence pieces for Forverts (Forward) and Tsukunft (Future) in New York (October 1909).  He published poetry, features, and articles in the Jassy socialist Veker (Alarm) in 1915.  He had an interest in graphic collections of a historical character.  He possessed one of the few great Yiddish libraries in Romania.  He died on the Romanian front during WWI.
