SHIMSHN-DOV YERUSHALIMSKI (July 19, 1892-July 6, 1968)

            He was born in Kaminke, Ukraine.  His father was the rabbi of Kielce.  In 1910 he was secretary of the rabbinical conference in Moscow.  He lived for a time in Miechów, where he served as a member of the Jewish community administration.  Until 1935 he was an employee of the Jewish National Fund in Warsaw.  He was a member of Vaad Hatarbut (Cultural council) of the general Zionists.  He debuted in print with a work on history (in Russian) concerning the persecution concerning Jewish attire in 1871 which appeared in the Russian Jewish anthology, Yevreyskaya starina (The Jewish past) in St. Petersburg (July-September 1912), pp. 334-38; this article was later published in abbreviated form in Yiddish in Haynt (Today) in Warsaw.  He was a contributor to and a member of the editorial board of Tsienistisher bleter (Zionist pages) in Warsaw (1925-1928).  He placed work as well in: Lodzer tageblat (Lodz daily newspaper), Keltser vokhnblat (Kielce weekly newspaper), and Haarets (The land), and Haboker (This morning) in Tel Aviv, among other serials.  He translated from Hebrew into Yiddish Yitskhok Grinboym’s Geshikhte fun tsienizm (History of Zionism) (Warsaw, 1930).  For Sefer kilts (The Kielce volume) (Tel Aviv, 1957), he translated into Yiddish the diary of his father, Rabbi Moyshe-Nokhum Yerushalimski.  He was working in the Ministry of Defense in Tel Aviv.
