YISROEL TSHERVINSKI-TSURBA

YISROEL TSHERVINSKI-TSURBA (April 2, 1879-May 10, 1964)

            He was born in Grayeve (Grajewo), Lomzhe district, Russian Poland, into a rabbinic family.  In 1901 he moved to the land of Israel and settled in Jerusalem.  For a time he lived in Egypt, was active in Mizrachi, later returned to Jerusalem, decided to take up business, and at the same time published articles and features in: Hashkafa (Outlook), Haḥerut (Freedom), Luaḥ erets-yisrael (Israel calendar) (edited by A. M. Lunts), the anthology Lefi shaa (For the present) (edited by David Yelin), Haposek (The decider), Ḥavatselet (Daffodil), and Unzer bruder (Our brother)—all in Israel.  For many years he served as the Israeli correspondent for Moment (Moment) in Warsaw and Morgn-zhurnal (Morning journal) in New York.  He also contributed to Amerikaner (American) and Minikes yontef bleter (Minikes’s holiday pages), among other serials.  He also published under the pseudonyms: Yisraeliya and Yisroelik.  He died in Ramat Gan.
