MENAKHEM
TSHAPNIK (b. August 14, 1910)
He was born in Grayeve (Grajewo), Russian Poland. He studied with his father, a school teacher,
and later at a Talmud Torah and in the Lomzhe yeshiva. At age eighteen he turned to studying secular
knowledge privately. In 1928 he
published his first article in the Mizrachi weekly newspaper Dos yudishe lebn (The Jewish life), and
from the point forward he wrote articles for the Orthodox press, as well as
correspondence pieces for Moment
(Moment) in Warsaw. In book form: Di klole, drame in dray aktn mit an epilog
(The curse, a drama in three acts with an epilogue) (Warsaw, 1931), 64 pp. He had in manuscript the play Der man fun morgn (The man from tomorrow)
and a cycle of dramas entitled “Fun amol un haynt” (From yesterday and today)—Yerovom ben navat (Jereboam son of
Nabat), Amnon un tomer (Amnon and
Tamar), and Yirmyohu (Jeremiah).
