AVROM TSHERKHOVSKI

AVROM TSHERKHOVSKI (1896-1944)

            He was born in Lodz, Poland.  In his youth he became a laborer and was active among the Labor Zionists in Lodz.  He was one of the founders and lead players in the Lodz Theater Studio.  He began writing stories in 1919 in Lodz-based literary publications, such as: Vegn (Pathways), Shveln (Thresholds), and Di fayl (The arrow).  He also published in: Lodzer tageblat (Lodz daily newspaper), Nayer folksblat (New people’s newspaper), and Lodzher arbeter (Lodz worker) in Lodz; Arbeter-tsaytung (Workers’ newspaper) in Warsaw; and other serials.  He also wrote under the pseudonym: Yaga.  In book form: Dertseylungen (Stories) (Lodz, 1930), 64 pp.  He died of hunger in the Lodz ghetto.
