SHMUEL
KHURTSHIN
He was born in Kiev, Ukraine. In 1885 he came to the United States where he
became a laborer. He published poetry,
fables, feature pieces, stories, and translations from Russian and German in: Folks-advokat (People’s advocate) and Forverts (Forward) in New York. He was also a regular contributor to the
monthly journal Di natsyon (The
nation), published by N. M. Shaykevitsh (Shomer) and M. Goldman, in 1901-1902
in New York. His work in book form: Der yudn-klemer (The Jewish eyeglasses),
translated from the German (New York, 1901), 16 pp. He also wrote under the name “Khurtshin from
Kiev.”
