MEYER-TSVI-HIRSH
ZAKHMAN (1850-December 13, 1940)
He was born in Krystynopil (Krisnepolye),
near Belz, eastern Galicia, into a rabbinic family. He received rabbinical ordination. When the Russian occupied Galicia during WWI,
he escaped to Vienna. He came to the
United States in 1920, was a cofounder of “Agudath Anshei Mamod Ubeis Vead
Lachachomim” (Society of the Supporters of the House of Sages) in New York. He author the religious works: Ḥidushe
tora (Torah novellae) (Munkásc, 1928), 162 pp.; Imre yeshara (Words of righteousness) (Munkásc, 1928), 25 pp.
Hebrew-Aramaic, 55 pp. Yiddish. The
latter contains a commentary on “the pious man” with a Yiddish translation in
the language of Carpathian Jewry, rich in distinctive, folkish
expressions. He died in New York.
