YITSKHOK VAYNSHTAT

YITSKHOK VAYNSHTAT (1853-1921)
            He was born in Bialystok to observant parents.  He studied in religious elementary school and in a high school.  He was a teacher in the Bialystok Gnesin School.  He devoted himself to translating and adapting children’s literature for Jewish schools.  He reworked Baynakht (Nighttime [original: Nochꞌiu]) by Vladimir Korolenko, edited by P. Kaplan (Bialystok: Dos Bukh, 1921), 53 pp.; Di erd (The earth [original: Zemlia]) by V. Lunkevich (Bialystok: Dos Bukh, 1921), 47 pp.; Di binen-malke (The queen bee [original: Bidronningen]) by Carl Ewald (Bialystok: Kultur-lige, 1920), 32 pp.; Der heysherik (The locust) by Carl Ewald (Bialystok: Kultur-lige, 1920), 58 pp.; Der regn-vorem un der botshan (The earthworm and the stork) by Carl Ewald (Bialystok: Kultur-lige, 1920), 38 pp.
