YISROEL HENDLER

YISROEL HENDLER
He hailed from Kishinev, Bessarabia.  He lived for a time in Czernowitz, Odessa, and Warsaw.  He later returned to Kishinev, where he was a Yiddish-Hebrew private tutor and disseminator of the Jewish Enlightenment.  He was the author of several books of stories, among them: Andere vayber, bagebenhayt fun dem yetstign yudishn lebn (Other wives, an event from contemporary Jewish life), “a true story” (Kishinev, 1892), 96 pp., second edition with the author’s name given as “S. Hendler” (Warsaw. 1908), 64 pp., and with a preface in which the author scoffed at the new styles and the civilization that was leading Jewish women downwards from the proper path.
