ISAAC GOLDBERG

ISAAC GOLDBERG (November 1, 1887-July 14, 1938)

            He was born in Boston.  He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University.  He performed “great service as the translator of a series of Yiddish works of fiction and drama” (M. Shtarkman).  His translations in book form include: Sholem Asch’s Got fun nekome as God of Vengeance: Drama in Three Acts (Boston: Stratford Co., 1918); Perets Hirshbeyn’s Di puste kretshme as The Idle Inn: A Folk Tale in Three Acts (New York: Z. & L. Rozenfield, 1921); two series of Six Plays of the Yiddish Theater (Boston: J. W. Luce and Co., 1916, 1921); Dovid Pinski’s Yeder mit zayn got as To Each His Own God (1917); Ten Plays by Pinski (New York: B. W. Huebsch, 1920); and Pinski’s Kenig dovid un zayne vayber as King David and His Wives (New York: B. W. Huebsch, 1922).  He also published longer essays on Yiddish and Yiddish literature.
