SHLOMO (SHLOYME) EVEN-SHOSHAN

SHLOMO (SHLOYME) EVEN-SHOSHAN (January 28, 1910-2004)
            He was born in Minsk.  He was a Hebrew writer who translated a series of Yiddish books into Hebrew (all published in Tel Aviv by Hakibbutz Hameuḥad): Y. Grinshteyn, Od mikikar-hayuval (More from the plain by the river) (1967); Esther Rozental-Shnayderman, Naftule derakhim (Meandering paths), vol. 2 (1971), subsequently published in three volumes under the title Af vegn un umvegn (On paths and detours); P. Markish, Umgerikhte rikhtung (Unexpected turn) (1977), with a parallel Hebrew translation; Y. Yanasovitsh, Maavar mize shel pele (The other side of wonder) (1977); A. A. Berman, Bimkom asher yuad hagoral (Instead of my destiny) (1977), later under its original title, Vos der goyrl hot mir bashert (What fate had in store for me).  He also published literary critical articles in Hebrew periodicals concerning Yiddish writers.
