LEYB DRUKER

LEYB DRUKER (1906-1943)
He was born in Czernowitz, Bukovina.  His wanderings and hardships suffered during the years of WWI (1914-1918) evidently left deep traces on his character and mood.  He contributed work to Tshernovitser bleter (Czernowitz pages) and Oyfgang (Arise) in Sighetu Marmației, as well as in other periodical publications in various parts of greater Romania.  Among his books: 27 lider (27 poems) (Czernowitz, 1934), 46 pp.  His poems were on the whole lyrical, elegiac, sometimes attempting within themselves a rebellious note.  He also tried his hand at writing for the Yiddish theater in Czernowitz.  He was deported in 1942 to Transnistria and murdered there.
