NOTE
GRABYE (b. 1908)
He was best known by his pen name “N.
Graf.” The son of the rabbi of Szniadow,
R. Menakhem Meir Grabye, he was born in Ostrolenke. He studied in religious primary schools and
yeshivas, and secular subjects in Tachkemoni schools. In 1928 he began publishing novellas in the
Warsaw Orthodox daily newspaper Der yud
(The Jew). He later became a contributor
to the daily Ovnt kuryer (Evening
courier), and he was responsible for this paper’s local news department. He worked for a time on the editorial board
of the weekly Varshever kuryer
(Warsaw courier). From 1930 he was on
the editorial board of Hayntike nayes
(Today’s news) in which he also published lighter popular features. In the 1930s he worked on the editorial board
of Haynt (Today) in Warsaw. Over the years 1935-1937, he traveled about
as the special envoy of the newspaper to Polish Jewish communities, and he
published fascinating notices and reportage pieces about various cities and
towns. We have no subsequent
biographical information. At the start
of WWII, he disappeared and his fate remains unknown.
