LIPMAN BERGMAN

LIPMAN BERGMAN (1892-December 25, 1915)
He was born into a Hassidic family in Lodz.  He studied in religious elementary school and at age fifteen entered yeshiva.  He was a laborer.  In 1909 he joined the Bund and was active as well in the Union of Textile Workers.  He lived for a time in Munich, Paris, and in Switzerland.  He worked as the Lodz correspondent for the Bundist newspaper Lebns-fragn (Life issues) (St. Petersburg, 1912).  Early in 1913 he was arrested, and because of his correspondence pieces he was arraigned in a trial of the newspaper and sentenced to permanent exile in Siberia.  On the road to Siberia, he became ill and died in the village of Zinovky where he was buried.
