BOREKH BENDERSKI (BENDERSKY)

BOREKH BENDERSKI (BENDERSKY) (May 15, 1880- April 30, 1953)

He was born in the village of Remankevits, Bessarabia, the son of a farmer.  In 1894 they emigrated to Argentina and settled in the YIKO (Jewish Cultural Organization) agricultural colony of Zonenfeld.  He began publishing in Di idishe hofenung (The Jewish hope) in 1908 in Argentina.  Over the years 1908-1917, he contributed pieces to: Der idisher colonist (The Jewish colonist), Di naye tsayt (The new times), Di idishe tsaytung (The Jewish newspaper), Di prese (The press), and in the anthology Bay di bregn fun la plata (On the shores of La Plata).  He also wrote Af idishe felder, skitsn un shilderungen (On Jewish fields, sketches and depictions) (Buenos Aires, 1931), 174 pp.  He died in the colony Dominguez, Entre Ríos Province.
