FROYM (ERNEST E.) BARBARASH

FROYM (ERNEST E.) BARBARASH (April 17, 1902-June 12, 2001)
     Born in Petrovsk, Russia, he was the son of Yehude Barbarash.  In his youth he moved to England.  Over the years 1916-1919, he studied at the Etz Chaim Yeshiva in London and at the Jewish College there.  He was one of the editors, 1920-1923, of the London Jewish Telegraphic Agency.  From his youth, he was an active Zionist.  He contributed to: Jewish Chronicle, Jewish Guardian, Daily Express—all in English—and to the London daily Jewish newspaper, Di tsayt (The times), edited by Morris Meyer.  In 1923 he emigrated to the United States, and he worked for the Jewish Telegraphic Agency in New York.  In 1944 he founded and edited the bulletin, The New Palestine, which was later known as The American Zionist.  For a time he served as co-editor of Dos yidishe folk (The Jewish people).  He participated as a contributor to various Zionist publications in Yiddish and English.  He was also the author of a number of pamphlets in Yiddish and English.  He lived in New York.
