AYZIK ORTMAN

AYZIK ORTMAN (d. April 1935)
The place and date of his birth remain unknown.  From 1888 he was living in New York.  A socialist and a contributor to the creation of a Yiddish-language press in America, he was secretary of the managing committee of the Socialist Workers Party, the first secretary of the United Hebrew Trades (Fareynikte yidishe geverkshaftn, founded in 1910), the first secretary and a member of the editorial board of Di tsukunft (The future) in 1892, and a member of the managing committee of Arbayter tsaytung (Workers’ newspaper).  He wrote articles for Abendblat (Evening newspaper), Folks-advokat (People advocate), Tsukunft, and Arbayter tsaytung, among others.
